The project revitalizes Torrelavega’s agriculture and livestock sectors, addressing their decline due to industrialization. As a key transportation hub with Spain’s third-largest cattle market, the city faces environmental challenges from outdated practices. This initiative promotes sustainability through four interconnected areas:
Agriculture: Training centers, communal gardens, and innovative farming methods like vertical and sunless farming.
Livestock: A research center to enhance animal welfare and productivity, with visitor engagement.
Seed Bank: Preserving local seeds for sustainable food production.
Social Spaces: Markets, festivals, and events integrating the community with agriculture.
The project repurposes an old paper mill using a sustainable, post-industrial approach, preserving structures while removing unsafe ones. It fosters minimal destruction, blending old and new elements harmoniously. The initiative educates, engages, and boosts the local economy while promoting sustainable practices.
